Water Main Break and Boil Water Advisory Update - March 8, 2026, 7:45pm

GLWA is making progress after Saturday's water main break. The damaged pipe has been replaced!
After an inspection of the water main on either side of the current break area, an additional 20-foot section of distressed main 80-feet west of the current break was identified and will be replaced this week as well
Boil Water Advisory Update:
Before the current Boil Water Advisories can be lifted, the water quality must be tested. The first round of samples is being taken today by Great Lakes Water Authority. We require two consecutive negative samples, taken 24 hours apart, to lift the advisory. If both rounds of testing come back clear, it is anticipated that the boil water advisories could be lifted by mid-week.
Repair Update:
GLWA is making progress, the damaged pipe has been replaced! After an inspection of the water main on either side of the current break area, an additional 20-foot section of distressed main 80-feet west of the current break was identified and will be replaced this week also. The replacement of the additionally identified 20-foot section of main will not impact the proposed mid-week target for lifting the boil water advisories.
GLWA will share updates on their website as they become available: glwater.org

Water Main Break Update - March 8, 2026, 10:30 am
As GLWA restores water service to Novi and water pressures are improving (though may not yet be at full strength and could fluctuate due to the demand on the system), all of those impacted by the water outage (unless on a well) are under a Boil Water Advisory until further notice. Click here for more information on the boil water advisory.
A few important reminders:
- We are not totally in the clear yet, as repairs are still ongoing.
- A water use restriction is in place. Please avoid washing clothes, and keep those showers short to help reduce demand.
- The system is stable, but it’s a good idea to fill your bathtub or other containers with water as a backup supply in case service is interrupted again.

Water Main Break Update - March 7, 2026,10:30 am
At 4:30 am, GLWA experienced a break in a 48-inch transmission main at 14 Mile Road and Verona (between Drake and Farmington Roads) in Farmington Hills. This break has caused much of Novi to lose water pressure.
Our Novi team met just a short while ago with GLWA. Crews are working to isolate the break in Farmington Hills and pressurize an alternate water delivery system.
Important Reminder: When water service is restored, please know a BOIL WATER ADVISORY is in effect until further notice for all impacted areas (Peach shaded area on the map, unless you are on a well).
Drinkable water is available at the Department of Public Works (26300 Lee BeGole Drive) - Please bring your own containers.
We are meeting again later this afternoon with GLWA and will continue to share updates as soon as we have them.
UPDATE (March 7, 2026, 6:55 am): The water main break is confirmed at 14 Mile and Drake in Farmington Hills. GLWA will be working to isolate the break and restore service.
UPDATE (March 7, 2026, 6:05 am): GLWA is investigating a possible water main break at 14 Mile and Drake.
UPDATE (March 7, 2026, 5:45 am): Early this morning, water pressure alarms alerted our team of a pressure loss from the Great Lakes Water Authority transmission lines. Much of Novi is without water. GLWA has been contacted and is working to determine the cause. Please see the map for impacted areas.
Once service is restored, all affected areas will be under a Boil Water Advisory.
We will continue to share updates as more information becomes available.
