DTE Energy Home EV Charger Installation Overview
DTE Energy coordinates with licensed, local electricians to install a Level 2 EV charger or a 240‑volt outlet (like NEMA 14‑50) at your home. Installation is performed by certified professionals vetted by DTE.
How it works:
- Log into DTE’s portal to request a free quote based on your needs.
- Options for installation dates will be texted or emailed to you.
- On the day of installation, a DTE-certified electrician visits your home and completes the installation.
Rebate eligibility:
- You may qualify for a Home EV Charger Rebate if you are a DTE Electric customer, install a Level 2 charger, and meet income and purchasing criteria (applied within six months of installation).

DTE Home EV Charger Rebate Summary
A rebate program that reimburses qualifying DTE residential customers for the cost of purchasing and installing a Level 2 EV charger (or EV supply equipment, EVSE) at home. The charger installation must be completed, and the application must be submitted within six months of installation.
How to Qualify
- You must be a DTE Electric residential customer in good standing, with no outstanding balance.
- Must have purchased or leased a new or used plug-in EV (BEV or PHEV) registered to you for at least 24 months in Michigan.
- Your household income must be under 200% of the HHS Poverty Guidelines. For example, in 2025, the limit for a household of 1 is $31,300, and for 4 it’s $62,400.
- The installed Level 2 EVSE must be rated at 11.5 kW or less and either ENERGY STAR® certified, UL listed, or made by your EV's manufacturer.
What You Get
- A reimbursement check equal to the charger + installation cost, provided your application is approved, and requirements are met.
- Up to two rebates per customer if you have two distinct EVs and two separate EV chargers.
How It Works

- Apply within six months, providing documentation such as:
- EV purchase or lease contract.
- Vehicle registration.
- Itemized installation invoice
