8 Mile Road to 9 Mile Road
Updated: 3/26/25
Start: April 15, 2025
Current Status: Pending
Projected End: November 2026
Project Jurisdiction: Road Commission for Oakland County
Progress:
Starting Phase 1 or Phase 2 construction will depend solely on the success of the utility companies relocating their facilities and Wayne County completing the bridge deck work on the 8Mile/CSX bridge (below), just east of Novi Road which will be closed and traffic west of it will need to utilize Novi Road as a detour.
Description
The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC), in partnership with the cities of Novi and Northville, will rehabilitate and reconstruct Novi Road, from 8 Mile to 9 Mile Roads.
Phase 1 - relocate utilities (DTE, Consumers, AT&T, etc.)
Phase 2 - reconstruct the 'curve' between 8 Mile Road and Allen Drive in the summer/fall of 2025
Phase 3 - rehabilitate the remainder of Novi Road from Allen Drive to 9 Mile Road.
There are also plans to add a continuous center left-turn lane throughout this entire section of Novi Road, as well as installation of a High-Intensity Activated Crosswalk or HAWK pedestrian signal just north of Galway Drive.
Road Closures/Detours
Phase 1 - there will be intermittent lane closures specific to the various utility companies.
Phase 2 - will be a hard, full closure of Novi Road at 8 Mile and again at Allen Drive.
Phase 3 - the contractor will maintain one-way, southbound traffic only. Northbound traffic will be detoured to Haggerty, 10 Mile and back to Novi Road.
